Set Me Free

Silhouette of a person in a dark alley with a looming shadow behind. Text: "Eden on Fire" and "Set Me Free." Ominous mood.

Set Me Free comes from a place of realizing you weren’t just stuck — you were in danger.

At the time, I believed someone was there to help me. To protect me. There’s a line in the song — *“I was waiting for you to rescue me that day”* — that comes from a very real moment in my life where things were not just bad, they were life-threatening.

And he didn’t step in.

Not right away. Not when it mattered.

What stayed with me most wasn’t just the silence — it was the realization that my suffering didn’t move him. If anything, it felt like something he could stand back and watch.

That moment changed everything.

It forced me to see what I had been missing all along — that what I thought was support was actually control, and what I thought was safety was anything but.

Looking back, the signs were always there. The confusion, the emotional haze, the feeling that something wasn’t right but not fully understanding why.

Set Me Free is about that moment of clarity — when you finally see the truth for what it is.

The manipulation. The lies. The realization that the person you thought was there for you was never going to save you.

So you do it yourself.

Sometimes the hardest truth to accept is that no one is coming to rescue you — and the only way out is to choose yourself and walk away.

Set Me Free

Lyrics by Amy Gould – Eden On Fire

Wasn't all that long ago you were in my mind

I was standing on the edge of another time

You were running I was waiting for you to rescue me that day

There I was on the edge didn't know I was your prey

Wasn't all that long ago life was so unkind

I was living in a haze lost somewhere in time

I was cryin out for mercy hoping that you'd hear my cries

But you were lurking in the dark ready with malignant lies

Recalling skin is crawling

Your venom all befallen

Misfortune led to sorrow

Almost were no tomorrows

Affliction your intention

All under false pretension

Disaster overwhelming

The heart in flight compelling

Begging me to set it free

Set me free

Wasn't all that long ago you were in my mind

Making sure my up was down

Keeping me maligned

I believed that you were trying until I saw your empty eyes

All that evil acrimony

A hidden wolf in sheep's disguise

Recalling skin is crawling

Your venom all befallen

Misfortune led to sorrow

Almost were no tomorrows

Affliction your intention

All under false pretension

Disaster overwhelming

The heart in flight compelling

Begging me to set it free

Set me free

Recalling skin is crawling

Your venom all befallen

Misfortune led to sorrow

Almost were no tomorrows

Affliction your intention

All under false pretension

Disaster overwhelming

The heart in flight compelling

Begging me to set it free

Set me free
