Wake The Monster [Explicit]

A silhouette stands before a fiery cityscape. The words "Eden On Fire" and "UNRESOLVED" are visible. The scene is intense and vibrant.

Wake The Monster [Explicit] is about what happens when past trauma gets triggered.

The word “triggered” gets thrown around a lot these days to describe anything that annoys or upsets someone. But in the context of trauma, it means something very different.

A trauma trigger is when something in the present — a situation, a tone of voice, a behavior — suddenly pulls you back into the emotional state connected to a past traumatic experience. It can happen before your mind even has time to catch up with what’s going on.

After coming out of an abusive relationship, I realized I carried a lot of those triggers with me. Certain moments could flip a switch almost instantly, bringing anger, fear, or defensiveness to the surface before I even had time to process it.

Wake The Monster tells the story of what that experience feels like from the inside.

The line that sums it up best is: “It might not be what you deserve, but that is what is being served.” When someone hits one of those wounds you’re still healing from, the reaction they get isn’t always about them. Sometimes it’s the monster that trauma woke up long before they arrived.

Wake The Monster

Lyrics by Amy Gould – Eden On Fire

Seething rage inside of me

Only get what I let you see

Better off if you'd let me be

Don't wake the monster

Lurking creature just below

The surface where you did not know

Triggered fury down below

Don't wake the monster

It might not be what you deserve

But that is what is being served

Destructive carnage

A warpath, can't escape her wrath

Monsters woken

Better run before there's aftermath

Pressure's rising

Eruption coming on too fast

Fueled by a fucked up, bullshit past

Ticking time bomb wires crossed

My own internal Holocaust

Indignation from all I've lost

Don't wake the monster

Violent clouds collide and fall

Deep inside behind my wall

Push me harder your downfall

Don't wake the monster

It might not be what you deserve

But that is what is being served

Destructive carnage

A warpath, can't escape her wrath

Monsters woken

Better run before there's aftermath

Pressure's rising

Eruption coming on too fast

Fueled by a fucked up, bullshit past

Destructive carnage

A warpath, can't escape her wrath

Monsters woken

Better run before there's aftermath

Pressure's rising

Eruption coming on too fast

Fueled by a fucked up, bullshit past

Wake the monster
